A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty at the Magistrates’ Court in Kuala Krai on Monday (October 26) to exposing his genitals to a married woman last week.
The plea was recorded before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid after the charge was read out to the teenager.
According to the charge, the teenager committed an act of gross indecency by lowering his trousers and exposing his genitals to the woman on Kampung Sungai Sok Bridge in Kuala Krai at around 1pm on October 20.
The offence was charged under Section 377D of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years upon conviction.
The court fixed November 18 for the case facts to be presented and sentencing, while also requesting a social report on the teenager from the Social Welfare Department.
Defence lawyer Mohd Azrizal Hamzi appealed for bail to be set at an amount the teenager’s family could afford.
He told the court that his client had stopped attending school and helped support his family by taking on odd jobs, including grass-cutting work. The teenager reportedly earned between RM20 and RM50 a day, depending on the work available.
Mohd Azrizal also informed the court that the teenager was married and supported his 14-year-old wife.
The court granted bail of RM1,000 with one surety.
Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid reminded the teenager to attend all future court proceedings accompanied by his guardian.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Hazim Aqifullah Mohd Amran handled the prosecution.
The teenager was released after the bail was paid.
