JPJ Warns: Settle Your Summons Or Face Blacklist & RM300 Fines

Date:

Nearly two million road users in Malaysia risk being blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for failing to settle outstanding traffic summonses.

JPJ Senior Director of Enforcement Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the unpaid fines include summonses issued under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) (Summons 53A), Interview Notices (114), and Sticker/JPJ(P)23 Notices (115).

He warned that in addition to the risk of blacklisting, the compounds will also be increased to RM300, along with the possibility of demerit points under the KEJARA system.

Special RM150 Compound Offer

To encourage settlement, JPJ is currently offering a special flat-rate compound of RM150 for the three types of summonses. The offer, which began in January, will run until the end of December.

“According to statistics from January until yesterday, over 1.45 million summonses were issued under AWAS, followed by 296,684 under Notice 114, and 164,598 under Notice 115,” Muhammad Kifli said at a press conference after Ops Khas Gempur Perdagangan at JPJ’s East Zone Academy last night.

“Some of these summonses date back more than 15 years, but JPJ is still giving road users the chance to clear them and avoid being blacklisted.”

Menora Tunnel A Top Offender Spot

He also revealed that one of the highest summons locations under AWAS is the Menora Tunnel in Ipoh, which can record up to 3,000 summonses in a single day.

“These figures come from just two cameras installed at the tunnel, and most of the violations occur during festive seasons or school holidays, as motorists head north or south.

“The common offense is speeding beyond the 80 km/h limit set for the area,” he explained.

Selangor, Perak, and Johor are the states with the highest numbers of AWAS summonses, largely influenced by the number of cameras installed in each state.

Muhammad Kifli urged the public to take advantage of the 50% discount through the special RM150 compound rate before stricter enforcement measures are implemented.
