Police are awaiting a forensic psychiatric assessment to determine the mental state of a 16-year-old boy suspected of injuring a teacher at a private school in Sarawak on October 21.
Sarawak acting police commissioner Deputy Commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said the report was crucial in establishing the suspect’s mental condition at the time of the incident.
“Police are awaiting the forensic psychiatric assessment report to determine the suspect’s mental state at the time of the incident. So far, we cannot draw any conclusions until the report is received,” he said at a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters on Wednesday.
Saifullizan said police had completed their investigation and submitted the investigation papers to the Sarawak Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office on October 26 for further review.
He said statements had been recorded from 38 witnesses, including students, teachers, security guards, medical specialists and the suspect’s parents.
Several seized items, including an axe, a knife, firecrackers, a computer and electronic gadgets recovered from the suspect’s home, have also been sent for forensic analysis.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
Saifullizan added that police had so far found no evidence linking the incident to bullying.
On October 21, he confirmed that a female teacher had been injured in an alleged attack by a Form Four student at a school in Sarawak.
