Visitors to Danau Kota Lake were greeted by a foul smell on Thursday after dozens of fish were found dead in the lake.
In a post on Threads, user @Hayana Darliz said the incident was not the first, as dozens of fish had also died at the same lake early last year.
“It’s happening again, guys… it has already started to smell this morning. By tomorrow or the day after, the smell will be much worse,” the post read.
The incident sparked shock and concern among social media users, with many hoping the authorities would take action to address the problem.
One user, Rohaizad, suggested that a lack of oxygen in the water could be responsible for the fish deaths. However, he also pointed out that the lake had an unusually large fish population, meaning that when mass deaths occurred, numerous carcasses ended up scattered along the banks.
Another user, @Suhaila, expressed disgust at the sight of the lake covered in dead fish and said the smell had made it unbearable to walk around the area.
Meanwhile, @Nvreend said the fish carcasses initially looked like flowers when viewed through a window.
Another user, @Sleepyfrog, claimed that some foreign visitors continued feeding the fish despite being prohibited from doing so.
The cause of the latest fish deaths has not been established.
