Residents in Labuhan Batu, North Sumatra, have come under fire after crowds were filmed taking thousands of boxes of medicine scattered across a road following a lorry accident.
The incident reportedly occurred recently along Jalan Lintas Sumatera in Bilah Hulu, when a bus attempting to overtake at a bend collided with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact sent the lorry’s medicine cargo spilling across the road, leaving thousands of boxes scattered at the scene.
The crash also left five people injured and caused a traffic jam stretching about 15km.
However, footage of the aftermath sparked a separate controversy, showing crowds rushing to collect the scattered medicine.
A video uploaded to Instagram by the account @pointofview.news showed people placing the boxes into bags and sacks as they gathered around the accident site.
The footage drew widespread criticism from social media users, who accused the residents of putting their own interests ahead of helping others and described the behaviour as selfish and inhumane.
