10 Dead, 24 Injured After Minibus Slams Into Truck On Highway

Date:

At least 10 people were killed and 24 others injured after a minibus collided with a heavy truck on a highway west of Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday.

The crash happened near 6th of October City, a sprawling satellite city in Giza province on the western outskirts of the Egyptian capital, according to a statement from the Health Ministry.

Ten of the injured victims were reported to be in critical condition.

Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the casualty figures were preliminary, with officials continuing to assess the situation.

The latest collision adds to a series of deadly road accidents in Egypt, where traffic crashes remain a persistent public safety concern.

Such incidents are frequently attributed to reckless driving, poorly maintained vehicles and inconsistent enforcement of traffic regulations.

According to Egypt’s state statistics agency, road accidents injure more than 75,000 people and claim over 5,000 lives in the country every year.

Earlier this month, 13 people were killed and 34 others injured when a heavy truck crashed into a tourist bus west of Cairo.

Last month, a bus accident in the Sinai Peninsula claimed 22 lives, including 10 Jordanian tourists.

In August, at least 18 people, many of them children, died in northern Egypt when two pick-up trucks carrying agricultural day labourers collided.
