A former New Jersey teacher has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a student who was just 11 when the misconduct began, with the abuse continuing for several years.
Laura Caron engaged in sexual activities with the boy between 2016 and 2020, according to investigators. The victim was 13 when Caron gave birth to their daughter in 2019.
The boy had previously been Caron’s student when she taught at an elementary school.
The case only came to light in 2024, when the victim’s father reportedly noticed that Caron’s then-five-year-old daughter closely resembled him and his son, prompting an inquiry and subsequent investigation, according to media reports.
Caron pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct.
She faces a five-year prison sentence, forfeiture of her teaching licence and lifetime parole supervision.
According to The New York Post, the victim, now 21, has defended Caron and claimed that he was the one who initiated the sexual encounters.
However, the victim was a minor at the time, meaning his alleged initiation or agreement could not constitute legal consent.
