Visitors at a popular amusement park in Chengdu, China, were left stranded high above the ground after a flying chair ride suddenly malfunctioned, leaving multiple passengers suspended in mid-air.
The incident happened on November 1 at Guose Tianxiang Theme Park in Wenjiang District, Sichuan province.
Videos circulating online showed the ride coming to an abrupt stop while all the passengers remained suspended in the air, unable to move.
One visitor claimed they had been stranded for around 30 minutes before everyone was eventually brought safely back to the ground.
However, the incident also sparked complaints over the park’s response, with visitors claiming they were not refunded their admission tickets.
They alleged that the only compensation offered to those who had been stranded on the ride was a cup of milk tea.
On November 2, park staff responded to the incident, explaining that unusually high instantaneous wind speeds had triggered the ride’s pump protection system, causing it to stop automatically.
According to the staff, the entire process, from the ride coming to a halt until all passengers were safely brought down, took approximately 20 minutes.
The park said it had since carried out a comprehensive inspection of the equipment and confirmed that the attraction had resumed normal operations on November 2.
