AKPS Chief Shuhaily Returns To Duty Amid Controversy, Chairs Strategic Meeting

Date:

Agensi Kawalan dan Perlindungan Sempadan Malaysia (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain has reportedly returned to work after taking leave last week, chairing the agency’s Commander’s Call Meeting No. 3/2026 today.

According to a Facebook post by AKPS, the meeting brought together senior officers and commanders of the agency’s entry points to discuss its direction and operational plans.

One of the key topics was Gerak Atur 2027, which focuses on strengthening the agency’s strategic direction, operational readiness and effectiveness in securing and protecting the country’s borders.

“Clear focus. Strengthened execution. Mission continues. AKPS remains committed to improving operational efficiency, integrity and the security of the country’s entry points,” the agency said.

Shuhaily’s return comes amid controversy surrounding an incident at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on September 28, which prompted a police investigation into allegations that he had assaulted two police personnel.

On October 21, Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Magistrates’ Court to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to the two police officers.

Both charges were filed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Following the developments, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed on October 29 that the Home Ministry (KDN) had decided to return Shuhaily to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after ending his secondment to AKPS.

Shuhaily is a police officer who was assigned to AKPS on a cadre basis. His next posting within PDRM will be determined by the police leadership.

However, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail reportedly said that Shuhaily’s new assignment had yet to be decided, as the process to end his tenure as AKPS director-general ahead of schedule must first be completed.
