Three men accused of accidentally shooting a friend dead during a hunting trip in Batu Caves, Selangor, allegedly brought back the victim’s body and left it in Kampung Selamat, Semanggol, early yesterday morning.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the Kerian District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a call from a member of the public at 3.55am reporting that the 43-year-old victim had been found dead.
“Preliminary checks revealed three wounds on the victim’s back believed to be gunshot injuries. A post-mortem will be conducted at Taiping Hospital tomorrow,” he said in a statement today.
Police later arrested two men, aged 32 and 33, in Kampung Selamat, Semanggol at 12.30pm yesterday. One of them is a relative of the victim. Another suspect, 36, was arrested in Batu Caves at 8.30pm the same day.
Investigations revealed the incident occurred around 8pm on Sunday, when the victim was mistakenly identified as game while the group was hunting.
“After the shooting, they agreed to transport the victim to Semanggol using one vehicle, accompanied by two others. The body was left by an unpaved roadside in an attempt to create a false story about what had happened,” Noor Hisam said.
Police seized a Toyota Vellfire, a Mazda, and a Toyota Hilux, along with two homemade shotguns, 11 rounds of 12 Bore ammunition, and four mobile phones.
The three suspects have been remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, while police are still tracking down another suspect believed to be involved.
