PAS Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has defended efforts to help former prime minister Najib Razak settle his RM50 million fine, saying such assistance can be considered a good deed that carries spiritual rewards.
He stressed that helping Najib pay the fine does not mean supporting wrongdoing, but rather supporting the royal pardon system recognised under Islamic principles.
“Muslims who help pay the RM50 million for Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be rewarded. It is not supporting embezzlement. It is supporting the King’s pardon system, which is recognised by Islamic law,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
In another recent post, Nik Mohamad Abduh said the rewards were not limited to financial contributions, but also extended to any action or effort to ease Najib’s difficulties in obtaining rights that had been granted to him.
“Not only donations, but any action or effort to ease Najib’s difficulties in obtaining his rightful entitlements is also rewarded,” he said.
His remarks came amid ongoing controversy surrounding Najib’s conditional pardon and the arrangements allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Both Facebook posts attracted considerable attention, garnering thousands of likes and hundreds to thousands of comments from social media users.
