14-Year-Old Arrested After Doing Dangerous Motorcycle Stunts on Penang’s Longest Bridge

Date:

Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy after a video of him performing dangerous motorcycle stunts on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge went viral on social media.

Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) District Police Chief, Superintendent Jay January Siowou, said his team received a report after a Facebook portal uploaded a clip showing the boy recklessly riding his motorcycle from Batu Maung towards Batu Kawan.

“In the recording, the suspect can be seen riding with his legs lifted, lying flat on the motorcycle, and lowering his head. This action not only endangered himself but also posed a risk to other road users,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Following the viral clip, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the SPS District Police Headquarters managed to track down the suspect, who later surrendered himself at the SPS police station at 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The teenager was detained along with the motorcycle for further investigation. An initial urine test showed that he was negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Police are also tracking down several other motorcyclists believed to have been involved in the incident.

“Dangerous riding is a serious offense, and police will not compromise with any individual who endangers the safety of road users,” he stressed.

Earlier, a 20-second video showing several motorcyclists performing stunts on the bridge went viral online. The clip was believed to have been recorded by a car passenger two days ago.
