Police have arrested five men, including an Indonesian national, to assist investigations into the assault of a man with bipolar disorder at Kompleks Hentian Kajang last month.
Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, said authorities detected a 51-second video that went viral at about 4.30pm yesterday, showing the victim being beaten by two men at the location.
“Investigations revealed that the incident took place on September 10. Following the assault, the 31-year-old victim was sent to Kajang Hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries to his face and mouth. He was later admitted to the psychiatric ward for 20 days as he is a bipolar disorder patient,” he said in a statement today.
Preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from claims that the victim had earlier disturbed a woman at a surau and at a nearby eatery.
“Based on information, police arrested five men, including an Indonesian national aged between 20 and 37, around Hentian Kajang at 7.35pm yesterday to assist in the probe. Further investigations are ongoing into the alleged disturbance and the actual cause of the incident,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.
