11 Trapped Villagers, Including Two Babies, Saved From Kedah Floods

Date:

A total of 11 people, including two babies, were rescued after being trapped in a flash flood at Kampung Merbau Kudung here last night.

Sik Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohd Jamil Mat Daud, said his team received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9:28 p.m.

“All 11 victims consisted of two babies, one child, five adult women, and three adult men. They were reported trapped after a small bridge in their village collapsed, while a large drainage canal surrounded the area,” he said.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene created an alternative route to reach the victims. “The victims were rescued by holding onto ropes while wading through floodwaters, which had risen to about one meter at the time,” he added.
