A police officer testified at the Sessions Court today that a woman accused of possessing a pistol asked him not to inform her husband, claiming the firearm was meant to be delivered to a buyer.
Assistant Superintendent Khairulazizi Ismail, the arresting officer, said 42-year-old Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin made the request after a pistol was discovered during an inspection of a Honda Jazz used by her and her husband.
Khairulazizi explained that he, along with officers from the Selangor Contingent Criminal Investigation Department and the Bukit Aman Special Investigation Division, went to a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Selangor to arrest Sharifah’s husband at 6 PM. After the arrest, he said the husband led officers to a nearby house for further inspection, with Sharifah following in the vehicle.
“The vehicle was locked, and Sharifah handed over the keys. During inspection of the car boot, a medium-sized black bag was found. Sharifah opened it herself, revealing a pistol with a holster and several clothing items,” he said.
Khairulazizi added that Sharifah asked him not to inform her husband about the gun, stating that it was intended for a buyer and only she knew about it.
Sharifah’s lawyer objected to the testimony, arguing it was a confession and inadmissible under Section 26 of the Evidence Act 1950, but the prosecution said the statement was general and not a confession. The court dismissed the objection.
On 8 April 2024, Sharifah pleaded not guilty to possessing a CZ 75 P-01 CAL.9 LUGER pistol at a house in Kampung Bukit Belimbing, Kuala Selangor, on 29 March 2024. The charge falls under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries up to 14 years’ imprisonment and a minimum of six strokes of the cane if convicted.
Previously, on 5 June 2025, her husband, Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin, 44, was sentenced to 10 years in jail and six strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to a related firearms offense. Separately, an Israeli national, Avitan Shalom, 39, was sentenced to seven years in prison on 26 February for possessing six firearms and 200 bullets in Kuala Lumpur last year.
Sharifah Faraha’s trial continues tomorrow.
