A bilingual kindergarten in Linkou, New Taipei City, is facing serious backlash after a well-known real estate YouTuber accused a teacher of abusing her 3-year-old daughter. The YouTuber claimed that her daughter was taped on the mouth with packing tape, slapped, and locked inside a dark room as punishment.
Police said the accused teacher, surnamed Lee, and four witnesses were brought to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office on Wednesday night (Oct 9). After questioning, prosecutors suspected Lee of coercion, assault, and child abuse, and released her on bail of NT$30,000 (approximately RM4,400).
The case went viral after the YouTuber uploaded a video titled “The Child Abuse Victim Is My Daughter”, describing her child’s trauma — including waking up crying, “I don’t want it, don’t hit my face.” Several other parents later supported her claims, saying they saw teachers drag children into CCTV blind spots to punish them.
In response, the New Taipei City Education Bureau ordered the kindergarten to submit all CCTV footage within two days and discovered that the school was registered as a tuition center but operating as a kindergarten, a violation under Taiwan’s Early Childhood Education and Care Act. The operator was instructed to immediately stop all childcare activities and could face a fine of up to NT$300,000 (about RM44,000).
The accused teacher denied all allegations, while the kindergarten’s founder, surnamed Lü, has yet to be questioned.
The school later issued a Facebook statement, claiming it had handed all footage to police and denied any form of misconduct. It also accused netizens of spreading false and defamatory remarks, saying it had appointed a legal team to gather evidence and would consider legal action to protect the reputation of its teachers and students.
The kindergarten added that, as the case is now under judicial investigation, it will not issue further comments until the legal process is complete.
