Education Ministry Urges Public Not to Circulate School Student’s Sexual Footage

Date:

Authorities have urged the public not to continue sharing videos related to a sexual misconduct case involving students at a school in Melaka, as it involves minors.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said her ministry has also requested cooperation from relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent the incident from spreading further.

“We have asked the relevant ministries to act swiftly to ensure this issue is not further circulated because it involves school children. Society also needs to understand that these cases involve minors who must be protected,” she told reporters after officiating a project handover at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baharu Sungai Lalang, Ambangan Height today.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar reported that four 17-year-old male students suspected of sexually assaulting a Form Three female student at a school in Alor Gajah on October 2 have been remanded for six days to assist in the investigation.

Fadhlina added that the victim is currently receiving psychosocial support and is still under medical treatment.

“In terms of school safety, the state education director has been instructed to take immediate measures to provide support to students and enhance security in schools,” she said.

She also emphasized that school staff and students will be provided with psychosocial support, as the case has gone viral.

“As schools continue with exams and normal operations, they must focus on safety issues. An internal investigation will be conducted by the Ministry of Education to review all aspects and determine what measures are needed post-incident. I will be visiting Melaka tomorrow to address this matter immediately,” she added.
