A 74-year-old man has captured the internet’s attention after marrying a 24-year-old woman and gifting her a dowry worth 3 billion rupiah (approximately RM770,000).
The wedding, held last Wednesday in Pacitan, East Java, quickly became the talk of the town and social media due to its extravagance and the couple’s striking age difference.
The groom, identified as Tarman, tied the knot with Shela Arika — a young woman described as gentle and modest in personality.
However, the couple’s joyful celebration soon turned controversial when the videography company responsible for filming the wedding claimed they had not received full payment for their services.
“I’m one of the victims who hasn’t been paid. In all my years running this business, this is the first time I’ve been deceived,” said the company’s owner in a statement to local media.
Initial viral reports alleged that Tarman and his new wife fled after the ceremony, sparking widespread speculation online.
But local police later denied those claims, clarifying that the couple had not run away — they were simply on vacation in the Wonogiri district after their wedding.
The case has stirred mixed reactions among netizens, with some praising the groom’s generosity while others questioned the sincerity of the relationship.
