MCMC Alerts Public: Sharing School Stabbing Related Content Could Land You in Legal Trouble

Date:

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a warning that legal action may be taken against individuals who share images or videos related to the stabbing of a female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama yesterday.

The commission advised the public not to circulate any content showing the victim, other students, or the crime scene, in order to respect the family’s privacy and avoid compromising the ongoing police investigation.

“MCMC urges everyone to act responsibly and refrain from sharing, reposting, or uploading any content, including images or videos, that depict the victim, other students, or the location of the incident. If such content has already been uploaded, the public is advised to delete it immediately,” the statement read.

The commission emphasized that sharing such content not only violates the privacy and dignity of the families involved but could also hinder the investigation being conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

MCMC further reminded that offenders could be prosecuted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588] for distributing inappropriate content related to the incident.
