PM Anwar: Student Safety And Discipline Issues To Be Announced Tomorrow

Date:

The government is set to make a decision tomorrow regarding student discipline and safety in schools, following reports of several troubling incidents in recent months.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he held a brief discussion with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on the matter today.

“We will discuss this in detail at the Cabinet level… I already had a short discussion with the minister (Fadhlina) today, and tomorrow we will make a decision,” he told reporters when asked about educational reforms in light of recent cases of rape, murder, and bullying in schools.

Anwar spoke to the media after officiating the 43rd ASEAN Ministers of Energy Meeting (AMEM), related meetings, and the 2025 ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) today.

The Prime Minister noted yesterday that strong measures addressing discipline and safety issues in schools requiring immediate intervention would be deliberated by the Cabinet.

Recently, several serious incidents involving school students have been reported, including a murder at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, and cases of sexual assault involving students in Melaka and Kedah.

Attention has also been drawn to the rising number of bullying cases in schools, with Ministry of Education data showing 7,681 cases recorded last year compared to 6,528 in 2023.
