Teens Spark Outrage Online With Jokes About Stabbing Women Over Rejected Confessions

Date:

A disturbing trend has emerged online as young social media users make jokes about violence against women, sparking outrage and concern among netizens. Recently, an original poster (OP) shared screenshots from Threads showing students joking that girls should accept any romantic confession to avoid being attacked.

The OP described the behaviour as “disturbing,” warning that normalising such jokes only perpetuates a culture that trivialises violence against women. The screenshots featured comments like:

  • “If I confess, you better accept. If you do not want to, I will stab you.”
  • “To those who get confessed to, you better just accept, or you might get stabbed later.”
  • “Ustaz Firdaus said next time if someone confesses to you, do not reject, just accept or they might kill you.”
  • “To all women, you should just accept when a man confesses, or you might get stabbed if you reject.”

The OP was particularly shocked that one screenshot referenced a religious figure, highlighting how casual jokes about violence can spread when even adults treat the topic lightly.

Critics also questioned why the conversation focused on instructing girls to stay safe by accepting unwanted confessions, rather than teaching boys and men to handle rejection without resorting to aggression.

Many Malaysians expressed frustration online. One commenter said:

“The fact that it is kids posting this is more disgusting. Something is seriously wrong if they can joke about this.”

Another questioned why the usernames were blurred, with others noting that joking about threats is considered harassment and is illegal, urging people to report such content.

The OP explained the names were blurred because the posters appeared to be minors and confirmed that the content had already been reported to MCMC.
