Four secondary schools in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, have swiftly implemented three immediate safety measures following the recent campus murder case, with full approval from the Petaling Utama District Education Office.
1. Metal Detector Checks
To prevent dangerous items from entering school grounds, teachers and patrol staff will use metal detectors to scan students each morning at the school entrance and corridors. The scan will check for metal objects, vapes, and mobile phones. The schools have purchased three full-body scanners and two high-sensitivity bag detectors, expected to be operational by Friday (Oct 24).
2. Buddy System For Toilet Use
Students are now required to go to the restroom in pairs, carrying a green card for supervision. Boys will use the ground-floor toilets, while girls will use those on the first floor. The allocated time is five to seven minutes, and teachers will be stationed outside to monitor movements. This measure will remain in effect until the end of the year.
3. Locker Room Closure
The locker rooms next to the sports field will be locked and remain closed. Students attending physical education (PE) classes are allowed to wear their sports attire directly from home, eliminating the need to change uniforms. On Oct 23 and 24, all students are permitted to wear sports uniforms for the entire day.
The schools emphasized that these safety steps aim to strengthen campus security, protect students and teachers, and prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
