Johnny Depp is set to haunt the silver screen once again, this time as Ebenezer in a fresh, thrilling adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. Paramount Pictures has slated “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol” for release on November 13, 2026, with Depp, 62, leading the cast.
The new take promises a darker, ghostly journey through Dickens’ London, following one man confronting the shadows of his past, present, and future in pursuit of a second chance. Horror maestro Ti West, known for hits like X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, directs, while Nathaniel Halpern pens the screenplay. Depp stars alongside Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough, who will play a pivotal role in this chilling reimagining.
This marks Depp’s return to major Hollywood studio films since Waiting for the Barbarians (2019) and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018). Following his high-profile defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp stepped back from Hollywood but has stayed active with projects like the French biopic Jeanne du Barry and his directorial period drama Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness. He is also set to star opposite Penélope Cruz in the thriller Day Drinker.
West’s adaptation isn’t the only Dickens-inspired project hitting screens; Robert Eggers and Willem Dafoe are also bringing a horror twist to A Christmas Carol in another upcoming version.
With Depp at the center and a November 2026 release just ahead of the holiday season, moviegoers can expect a haunting, visually rich take on the timeless ghost story.
