‘Free Free Palestine!’ Echoes Across Dataran Merdeka as Protesters Rally Against Trump

Date:

Cries of “Free Free Palestine!” echoed through Dataran Merdeka on Sunday as participants gathered for the Himpunan Bantah Trump rally, voicing strong opposition to U.S. policies and expressing solidarity with the people of Palestine.

A check by Sinar Harian found that participants began assembling around the iconic square as early as 9:30 a.m., waving Palestinian flags and holding placards condemning acts of genocide.

Among those present were Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, Chairman of Amanah’s International Bureau, and Tian Chua, activist and former PKR Vice President, who joined the crowd in showing support for the cause.

The rally was initially planned to take place at Ampang Park, Jalan Ampang, but organizers relocated it to Dataran Merdeka at the last minute.

The event coincides with reports that U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive in Malaysia to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus reminded the public to abide by the law and uphold democratic values to maintain peace and public safety. He explained that Ampang Park was deemed unsuitable as a gathering point due to police intelligence assessments, noting its proximity — just 50 meters from a designated red zone — where official ASEAN delegate routes are located.

Despite the shift in venue, the rally proceeded peacefully, with participants using the platform to call for justice and express unwavering support for the people of Palestine.
