Trump Hints at Third Term Bid, Says He’d “Love to Do It”

Date:

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted he would “love” to run for a third term in the White House, though such a move would violate the U.S. Constitution. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route from Malaysia to Japan, Trump said he hadn’t seriously considered it yet but added that his current approval ratings were “the best [he’s] ever had.”

Trump dismissed suggestions that he could run as vice-president in 2028 to bypass the two-term limit, calling the idea “too cute” and saying it “wouldn’t be right.” He also praised potential successors such as Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing them as “unstoppable.”

Under the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, presidents are barred from seeking a third term. Repealing it would require two-thirds approval in both the House and Senate, as well as ratification by 38 states—a process seen as nearly impossible.

The renewed discussion came after former Trump adviser Steve Bannon claimed a “plan” was being developed to secure Trump another term, saying, “Trump is going to be president in ’28.”

While Trump has previously said he would “probably not” run again, his comments continue to stir speculation about his political future. Meanwhile, Democrats like California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris have hinted at possible 2028 bids of their own.
