A Florida man has been convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend after she refused to have an abortion.
Donovan Faison was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo, who was around three months pregnant when she was killed in November 2022. Prosecutors said Faison shot Kaylin after repeated arguments over her decision to keep the baby.
Kaylin’s body was discovered inside a parked car at Coastline Park in Seminole County with a gunshot wound. Investigators believe she had gone there to meet Faison that night.
The jury deliberated for only two hours before returning a guilty verdict. Prosecutors are now seeking the death penalty, with sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.
Kaylin, described by family as a loving mother to her one-year-old son, had been trying to build a better life when she was killed. Her aunt, Tatiana Fiengo, said, “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least he can’t hurt anyone else.”
Faison was arrested shortly after the murder and has remained in custody since.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly one in five homicide victims in the U.S. are killed by an intimate partner — and over half of all female homicide victims die at the hands of a current or former partner.
Florida recorded 1,361 homicides in 2023, a rate of 6.5 deaths per 100,000 people — more than double the rate in England and Wales, which saw 590 homicides that same year despite having nearly three times Florida’s population.
