Woman Slowly Kills Boyfriend With Eye Drops Then Hid His Body

Date:

A 53-year-old woman, Marcy L. Oglesby, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after poisoning her long-term boyfriend, Richard “Rick” Young, with eye drops, watching him slowly suffer, and then hiding his body in a storage unit in Maquon, Illinois. Young, a former police chief, was killed in late 2021, and his remains were discovered nearly a year later. Prosecutors revealed that Oglesby administered tetrahydrozoline—a common ingredient in over-the-counter eye drops—over several months, ultimately leading to his death.

Despite initially facing lesser charges, Oglesby’s case was upgraded to murder and aggravated battery, and after a bench trial, she was convicted in just five minutes. Evidence included dozens of discarded eye drop bottles, a pill crusher, and receipts showing purchases used in the poisonings. Her cohabitant, Karen Doubet, testified that she assisted Oglesby but was spared charges in exchange for her testimony.

Oglesby maintained her innocence during sentencing, claiming she did not commit murder, but the judge found the evidence overwhelming. She now faces decades behind bars for her shocking crime, which authorities say demonstrates the cruel and calculated nature of her actions.
