Pregnant Woman Collapses in Bath, Dies Alongside Unborn Baby

Date:

In Taichung, a 37-year-old pregnant woman tragically died along with her unborn child in what authorities are calling a “double fatality” incident. The woman, surnamed Zhang, who was two months pregnant, was staying with her 44-year-old boyfriend in a short-term rental apartment on Wenxin Road Section 3. Around 10:38 a.m., she was taking a bath when she suddenly became dizzy and experienced difficulty breathing.

Her boyfriend tried to help her onto the bed and ran out to seek assistance, but the apartment door had locked behind him. He quickly called the landlord, who arrived to open the door, and emergency services were dispatched. By the time the fire department arrived, Zhang was unresponsive with no heartbeat or breathing. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both she and her fetus could not be saved.

Neighbors recalled seeing the emergency responders arrive, but were unaware of the full situation. Authorities are investigating whether underlying medical conditions such as high blood pressure or asthma, possibly aggravated by recent weather changes, may have contributed to the sudden collapse.

Dr. Shen Dequn, vice president at Zhushan Xiuchuan Hospital, explained that during extreme temperature changes, especially while bathing in cold weather, pregnant women are at risk of sudden blood pressure fluctuations, which can lead to cerebral vessel rupture or hemorrhage, a common cause of sudden collapse.

Police confirmed that there were no signs of external trauma, struggle, or medications found at the scene. The case is under investigation, and Zhang’s family has been notified as authorities await the official autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
