Shein Reported To French Authorities Over Childlike Sex Dolls

Date:

France’s consumer watchdog has reported the Asian fast-fashion company Shein to authorities for selling “sex dolls with a childlike appearance” on its website.

The Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) said the online descriptions and categorization of the dolls made it “difficult to doubt the child pornography nature of the content.”

Shein told the BBC that the products were “immediately delisted as soon as we became aware of these serious issues.” The company said it is investigating how the listings bypassed its screening measures and is conducting a comprehensive review to remove any similar items sold by third-party vendors.

According to French media reports, the DGCCRF has referred Shein to French prosecutors and Arcom, the country’s online and broadcasting regulator.

The report comes just days before Shein is set to open its first permanent physical store in the world, located in a Paris department store.
