An elderly man is feared to have drowned after falling into a large drain while casting his fishing net near Jalan Taman Lestari Putra, Seri Kembangan, yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said they received a distress call at 8:47 p.m. and arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.

He said two officers and six firefighters from the Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the location.

“The victim, a 74-year-old man, was believed to have gone missing while fishing near the large drainage area,” he said in a statement today.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation involved firefighters, police, family members, and local residents.

“As of 11 p.m. last night, rescuers only managed to find the victim’s motorcycle at the spot where he was reported missing,” Ahmad Mukhlis added.

He said the search operation resumed at 8 a.m. this morning to locate the missing man.
