Govt to Boost Petrol Subsidy for E-Hailing Drivers: Quota Increase Coming in November

Date:

The government will soon announce an additional increase in the BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) petrol quota for full-time e-hailing drivers, confirmed Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.

The revision comes in response to appeals from drivers and fuel usage data submitted by e-hailing service providers. “The government, along with the Transport Ministry, has met with e-hailing companies to review eligibility and has reached an agreement in principle to improve the subsidy,” he said. “The increase will be officially announced soon and is expected to take effect in November.”

Previously, on October 13, the government raised the BUDI95 quota ceiling for full-time e-hailing drivers from 300 litres to 600 litres per month, benefiting nearly 58,000 drivers nationwide. The upcoming adjustment aims to further ease operational costs for drivers.

On the fiscal front, Datuk Johan clarified that the government will not take aggressive measures to reduce the national deficit, despite calls from certain quarters. With next year’s economic outlook expected to be moderate, he said the government must strike a balance between maintaining fiscal prudence and providing adequate support for economic activities.
