Settle JPJ Summonses by Jan 1 or Face Action, Minister Warns

Date:

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has issued a stern reminder to motorists with outstanding Road Transport Department (JPJ) summonses to settle them by January 1, warning that failure to do so could lead to blacklisting or legal action.

Speaking at a press conference today, Loke revealed that there are over 5.5 million unpaid JPJ summonses nationwide, Free Malaysia Today reported.

He said that starting January 1, vehicle owners who ignore their summonses risk being barred from renewing their road tax or driving licences, depending on the type of offence.

To encourage compliance, JPJ is offering a 50 per cent discount on all compoundable summonses from November 1 to December 30.

Loke added that most of the outstanding summonses — 3.68 million — involve JPJ P(22) notices, which include offences such as driving without a valid licence or with expired road tax.

Another 1.38 million offences were recorded by the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS), covering speeding and running red lights.

Loke urged all motorists to take advantage of the discount period to clear their dues and avoid enforcement action in the new year. — Malay Mail
