Ferry Collides with Chemical Tanker in Singapore Waters – All 172 Aboard Safe

Date:

A ferry from Batam carrying 165 passengers and seven crew members collided with a chemical tanker in Singapore waters on Monday.

The MV Horizon 9, which departed Batam around 3:30pm en route to Singapore, reportedly struck the LA Digue, a Marshall Islands-registered chemical tanker, at approximately 7:30pm.

All passengers and crew from both vessels were safely evacuated to Singapore’s HarbourFront terminal.

One passenger, Junaidi, said the ferry suddenly swerved to the left just before the collision. “The engine was switched off, and we noticed the ferry heading towards the side of the tanker. Then there was a loud bang,” he said, adding that there was a brief commotion before staff reassured passengers that the ferry was not seriously damaged.

The ferry was later escorted safely to HarbourFront Terminal, though the bow of the Horizon 9 sustained damage.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the collision and assess any potential environmental impact.
