Namewee Had Alleged ‘Special Relationship’ With Late Taiwanese Influencer

Date:

Local rapper Namewee and the late Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi shared a “special relationship,” Kuala Lumpur police confirmed today as investigations into her death continue.

Hsieh, 31, was found dead in a hotel room on October 22. Initially classified as a sudden death, the case was upgraded to murder on November 4.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus disclosed the nature of their relationship at a press conference, stating, “They are friends and they have other relationships that I will not get into. I do not need to reveal the full extent, but it is a ‘special’ relationship.”

Investigations revealed that Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was the last person seen with Hsieh before her death. Hsieh, also known as Iris Hsieh, was found in a bathtub on October 30 while working on a video project with the rapper.

Namewee was first arrested and charged with drug-related offences on October 24. He was later detained again on November 5 to assist in the murder investigation and has since been remanded. His remand was extended yesterday until Thursday.

Fadil added that Hsieh’s body has not yet been claimed and that authorities are awaiting the toxicology report before submitting final recommendations to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
