M’sian Man Saved by Fisherman After Jumping Off Bridge

A 48-year-old man was rescued this morning after jumping off the Penang Bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.

The incident occurred at KM 2.2 of the bridge, heading towards the island, at around 10.03am, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

Witnesses reported that the man had stopped his vehicle on the bridge before leaping into the sea moments later, sparking panic among motorists.

A nearby fisherman who witnessed the incident immediately rushed to the man’s aid and managed to pull him safely from the water before emergency responders arrived.

Fire and Rescue personnel from BBP Perai later reached the scene and assisted in stabilising the man before handing him over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.

The operation concluded at 11.26am.
