Teacher Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Relationship with 14-Year-Old Student

Date:

A 28-year-old teacher, Teresa Whalin, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student and allegedly stalking him after he ended the relationship. Whalin is reported to have exchanged nude photos with the student and used fake phone numbers to contact him.

The relationship allegedly began in April 2023, with the student describing it as “dating.” According to an affidavit, the pair exchanged Snapchat messages, went out to eat, and spent time together in Whalin’s classroom. Following the breakup, the boy reportedly struggled with his mental health.

After the student cut off contact, Whalin allegedly began stalking him, reportedly driving to his home and appearing along his route home from school in Denver, Colorado. The alleged sexual relationship was revealed to a school counsellor on Monday, prompting the police to be notified. Whalin was arrested the same day.

During a police interview, she reportedly admitted to the sexual relationship, exchanging nude photos, and creating fake phone numbers to contact the student, believing this would make him turn to her for support.

Whalin faces charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child, and stalking. She is being held at the Douglas County Detention Centre on a $50,000 bond.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whalin has worked for the Douglas County School District since July 2021. She has been placed on administrative leave, and the school district is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
