The Selangor Immigration Department uncovered a suspected drug den used by foreign nationals during a raid at an apartment unit last night.
According to Immigration Department deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Lokman Effendi Ramli, officers inspecting the building’s ninth floor noticed a foreign man attempting to dispose of a small bag in a suspicious manner.
A search revealed that the bag contained modified equipment believed to be used for smoking syabu (methamphetamine).
The apartment unit was occupied by three foreign nationals—a married couple and another woman.
“The case will be handed over to the police for further investigation,” Lokman Effendi said at a press conference following the operation.
The three-and-a-half-hour raid, which began at 8.30pm, involved 78 Immigration officers and personnel. A total of 285 foreign nationals were inspected, with 95 detained for various immigration offences such as overstaying and not possessing valid identification documents.
The detainees—70 men and 25 women aged between 18 and 50—will be held at the Semenyih Immigration Depot for further investigation.
