MyGov Super App Will Not Store Personal Data, Digital Minister Assures

Date:

The government’s upcoming MyGov super app will not store citizens’ personal data, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo told Parliament today.

He clarified that the platform operates using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), meaning all data remains in the respective government agencies’ systems.

“This approach ensures MyGov functions only as a service delivery platform without copying or storing citizens’ sensitive information,” he said during question time.

APIs allow systems to communicate and process requests without retaining user information — acting as a secure channel where responses are returned instantly.

Gobind also confirmed that the app uses MyDigital ID as its digital identity verification mechanism.

The MyGov super app, which entered beta testing on August 16, has been downloaded more than 113,000 times.

During its first phase, the platform integrates 36 services from 13 government agencies, including MyJPJ, Immigration and National Registration Department services, MySejahtera, and social welfare assistance.

He added that the government is now developing the integration of 16 additional services, such as driving licence and road tax renewals, utility and zakat payments, police summons settlements, and various federal and local authority services.

Gobind said the app is being rolled out in stages to ensure each integration is secure, stable, and fully functional before public release. Citizen Lab engagement sessions are also being held to gather user feedback to improve the app’s design, usability, and features.
