A mother has been left questioning whether she should report her 13-year-old son to the police after allegedly catching him secretly recording her while she was showering.
In an anonymous confession shared on Facebook, the woman said she had a son from her previous marriage and was also caring for her five-year-old twin stepdaughters after marrying her second husband.
She said her son generally got along well with his stepfather and stepsisters. However, he would reportedly lose his temper and hurl vulgarities whenever the young girls disturbed him while he was playing mobile games.
The mother said she had tried various disciplinary approaches, from scolding him harshly to calmly reasoning with him. She even warned him that he might no longer be allowed to live at home if his behaviour did not improve.
His attitude eventually showed signs of improvement, prompting her to ease restrictions on his gaming activities.
However, the improvement did not last. The woman said she had to reprimand him again after catching him swearing.
The following day, she was taking a shower when she noticed someone using a phone to secretly record her. She soon recognised the device as belonging to her son.
The discovery left her furious and shocked, she said.
Initially, she scolded him before deciding to sit down and speak to him about what had happened.
“When I asked him why he had secretly filmed me, he initially said it was because I scolded him often. But when I pressed him further, he stammered and could not give a clear explanation,” she wrote.
The mother eventually decided not to take further action at the time, instead giving her son a stern warning that his behaviour was unacceptable.
She also told him that she would consider making a police report if he repeated the act.
Despite his promise not to do it again, the woman admitted that she was still struggling to move past the incident.
She questioned whether her strict disciplinary approach might have contributed to his rebellious behaviour, but acknowledged that this did not justify secretly recording someone in a private setting.
The woman is now seeking advice on whether she should give her son another opportunity to prove that he has changed or take firmer action by lodging a police report.
