A 24-year-old Malaysian Army corporal was killed after he was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle and plunged about five metres from a flyover near the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur this morning, landing on another motorcyclist below.
The incident occurred at about 8.04am along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), as Lance Corporal Anderson Jerrey Hendry was travelling from his home in Bukit Jalil to his workplace at Sungai Besi Camp.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the victim was attempting a U-turn along a flyover ramp near TBS when he was believed to have lost control of his Honda Wave motorcycle.
“The victim was thrown from the flyover onto the road below, while the motorcycle he was riding remained on the flyover.
“At the same time, he landed on a 46-year-old Malay man who was riding a Honda Vario from Cheras towards Sungai Besi, causing both men to fall onto the road,” he said in a statement.
An Isuzu lorry driven by another 46-year-old man attempted to avoid the two victims but was unable to do so in time, subsequently hitting the Honda Vario motorcycle.
Anderson sustained severe injuries to his head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other motorcyclist suffered a broken left arm, facial injuries and bleeding from the head. He was taken to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) for further treatment.
The lorry driver was not injured.
Mohd Zamzuri said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which concerns causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps (KJLJD) confirmed that Anderson served as an automotive technician with the 74th Division Workshop.
The corps also expressed its condolences to his family following his death.
Anderson reportedly leaves behind a pregnant wife who is expecting their first child in December.
