A five-year-old boy in Jiangsu province, China, has suffered serious facial and neck injuries after being attacked by the family’s pet husky while feeding the dog at home, in a disturbing incident that has drawn public attention.
According to reports from Chinese media, the incident took place on 18 April at a residence in Xuzhou. The boy’s mother said she was occupied indoors at the time, while her son was outside feeding the dog alone.
During the feeding, the child reportedly made a sudden movement while squatting, which may have been misinterpreted by the dog as an attempt to take its food. The husky then allegedly knocked the boy to the ground and bit him repeatedly.
Generally, pet-related injuries involving large dog breeds often occur due to sudden movements or miscommunication between animals and young children, particularly when supervision is limited during feeding.
The boy sustained multiple bite wounds to his face and neck and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Medical staff reportedly stitched his facial injuries with nearly 50 stitches before he was discharged to continue recovery at home.
His mother said that while the boy is no longer in significant physical pain, he is expected to be left with facial scarring and has also developed psychological trauma, now showing fear when encountering larger dogs.
Authorities did not provide further details regarding the dog, though reports stated that the husky involved has since been removed from the household.
