A disturbing case of animal abuse in Tasek, Ipoh, has drawn public attention after a man shared his experience on social media, prompting authorities to intervene and ensure the dog’s safety.
The incident occurred last Friday (Dec 26) and was recounted in a Facebook post by a man identified as Tan. He said he was having a meal with a friend at a kopitiam when he noticed a dog being dragged along the road behind a motorcycle. The animal was reportedly leashed with a metal chain, while the rider did not stop or turn back to check on the dog’s condition.
Alarmed by the sight, Tan ran towards the road and shouted at the motorcyclist, an elderly man, twice. The rider eventually stopped, unchained the dog and appeared ready to leave. Tan said he warned the man that he would contact the police if he attempted to flee.
When Tan examined the dog, he found its front paws bleeding, indicating it had been seriously injured. He confronted the man over the apparent abuse, but said the man showed no remorse and offered no explanation, claiming instead that he would take the dog home to treat its injuries.
According to Tan, the man later returned to the kopitiam and asked whether the incident would be reported or shared online. Tan said he agreed not to post the footage if the man took him to the location where the dog was supposedly left. However, when brought to a back alley, Tan found no sign of the injured animal, leading him to suspect he was being misled.
The man later brought Tan to another house, claiming the dog belonged to a different individual. Tan said he was met by a couple who appeared indifferent to the dog’s welfare and made dismissive remarks about abandoning the animal.
In an update shared in the comments section of his post, Tan said the dog has since been located and is now under the care and monitoring of the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS). Police have also been informed and are involved in the case.
Tan thanked members of the public who offered assistance, expressing relief that the dog is now safe and receiving proper care.
