Eleven Dogs Die In Suspected Poisoning Cases Across Seremban Within 48 Hours

Date:

Eleven dogs have died in two suspected poisoning cases in Seremban within 48 hours, according to local animal rescue group Furrykids Safehaven.

The first case was reported on Feb 26 when a pregnant female dog was found dead behind the Istana feeding area. Several birds were also discovered lifeless at the same location, prompting concerns of deliberate poisoning.

A day later, on Feb 27, a more serious incident occurred at Taman Malaysia. Multiple dogs were reportedly found dead or in critical condition after consuming food believed to have been laced with poison. Despite swift action by volunteer feeders, five dogs — two adult females, two eight- to nine-month-old females, and a two-month-old puppy — succumbed.

Dogs that survived displayed symptoms commonly associated with poisoning, including frothing at the mouth, vomiting blood, severe convulsions, sudden collapse and rapid decline. Including the earlier case near the Istana area, the total number of confirmed deaths has reached eleven.

In a statement issued today, Furrykids Safehaven said it had lodged official complaints with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), supported by videos, photographs and field reports. The cases were registered under reference numbers KH/N/2026/0092 and KH/N/2026/0057.

However, the group was later informed that both cases were classified as No Further Action (NFA), citing the absence of direct witnesses and a lack of CCTV footage in the affected areas.

“While we acknowledge procedural constraints, the decision is deeply upsetting,” the organisation said. “The absence of witnesses does not diminish the suffering endured, nor does it remove the potential public safety risk posed by suspected poison in open areas.”

Furrykids Safehaven noted that the affected dogs were regularly fed and monitored community strays, with several already sterilised under structured management efforts.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to humane solutions such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programmes, vaccination campaigns and community education. It also urged authorities to enhance surveillance in public areas, called on residents to report suspicious activities promptly, and appealed for greater support for transparent and compassionate stray management strategies.

“Poisoning is not humane population control. It is cruelty,” the statement stressed.

Furrykids Safehaven is a registered animal rescue organisation based in Negeri Sembilan.
