A Ukrainian social media influencer has apologised after facing backlash for sitting on a sea turtle and holding a hatchling in Oman.
According to Metro UK, the incident took place at Ras Al Jinz, one of Oman’s well-known turtle nesting and breeding areas.
Fitness trainer Vadym Oleynik was filmed approaching a female turtle as it moved along the beach before sitting on its shell.
The turtle continued moving, causing Oleynik to fall to the ground. However, he reportedly got back up and sat on the turtle again while laughing.
In the same video, Oleynik was also seen holding a turtle hatchling in his hands as it moved its small flippers.
The footage drew criticism online, with viewers condemning his actions and accusing him of treating the protected wildlife inappropriately.
Following the backlash, Oleynik apologised for his behaviour and acknowledged the criticism surrounding his actions.
