Seeing a new LINDUNG 24 Jam deduction on your payslip? Here’s what it actually means.
The new PERKESO scheme covers something regular SOCSO does not — accidents that happen during your own time.
That means an accident at home, while playing football or cycling, or even during a holiday within Malaysia could potentially be covered.
But there are important catches.
Here’s the simple breakdown of what LINDUNG 24 Jam covers, what it does not, how much it costs and what happens if you opted out.
What Is LINDUNG 24 Jam?
LINDUNG 24 Jam is officially known as Skim Kemalangan Bukan Bencana Kerja (SKBBK).
It came into effect on June 1, 2026, following amendments to the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969.
It is run by PERKESO, not a private insurance company, and it does not replace your existing SOCSO protection.
Instead, it adds protection for accidents that happen outside working hours and are unrelated to your job.
So What’s The Difference?
Think of it this way:
Regular SOCSO: You get injured at work or while commuting through your normal route.
LINDUNG 24 Jam: You get injured while doing your own thing outside work.
And yes, the difference can be quite significant.
LINDUNG 24 Jam only covers accidents within Malaysia.
What Can It Cover?
Some examples include:
- 🚗 Accidents while travelling home during festive periods
- 🏖️ Holidays and leisure trips within Malaysia
- 🏠 Certain accidents at home
- ⚽ Sports and recreational activities such as football and cycling
- 🕌 Accidents while preparing for or performing religious activities
- 🐕 Injuries caused by animal attacks
- 🔑 Accidents while returning to work or home to retrieve something you forgot
So, basically, it is designed for the accidents that can happen when you are off the clock.
What Do You Actually Get?
There are eight main benefits:
- Medical treatment — Treatment at PERKESO panel clinics or government hospitals until recovery.
- Temporary disablement — RM30 to RM158.67 per day, subject to eligibility and at least four days of certified medical leave, including the accident day.
- Permanent disablement — Compensation based on the degree of disablement, average wage and age.
- Constant attendance — RM500 a month if you have permanent total disablement and require constant care.
- Rehabilitation — Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, prosthetics, wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids and vocational retraining.
- Dependants’ benefit — Financial support for eligible family members if you die from a non-work-related accident.
- Funeral benefit — Up to RM3,000.
- Education benefit — A loan for eligible dependant children in certain cases.
But There’s A Big Catch
LINDUNG 24 Jam does NOT cover illnesses.
That means conditions such as cancer, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, dengue and fever are not covered.
It is an accident scheme, not a medical card.
It also does not cover accidents that happen overseas.
So if you hurt yourself during a holiday in Bali, for example, LINDUNG 24 Jam will not cover it.
Work-related accidents are also handled under the existing Employment Injury Scheme.
Other exclusions include:
- Self-inflicted injuries
- Fraudulent or staged accidents
- Accidents involving criminal activity
- Temporary disablement claims with fewer than four days of certified medical leave
- Accidents that happened before June 1, 2026
How Much Are You Paying?
The contribution rate is being introduced in stages:
June 2026–May 2028: 0.75%
June 2028–May 2031: 1%
From June 2031: 1.25%
At the current rate, someone earning RM4,500 a month pays around RM33.35.
At the RM6,000 wage ceiling, the maximum contribution is about RM44.65 a month.
This is separate from your existing SOCSO and EIS deductions.
Wait — Wasn’t It Made Voluntary?
Yes.
The Cabinet decided on July 8, 2026 that LINDUNG 24 Jam would be voluntary for Malaysians.
PERKESO then gave employees until August 31 to opt out.
If you did not submit the required opt-out notice by the deadline, you were treated as a participant.
And opting out was something you had to do yourself — your employer could not do it for you.
What If You Already Opted Out?
Your other SOCSO protection is not affected.
Your Employment Injury and Invalidity coverage continues as normal.
You simply lose the additional protection provided by LINDUNG 24 Jam for accidents during your personal time.
PERKESO has also provided a way for people who opted out to rejoin the scheme, although there is currently no announced mechanism to opt out for a second time.
Who Should Consider Keeping It?
It may be worth considering if:
You don’t have personal accident insurance.
LINDUNG 24 Jam could provide an additional safety net if you are injured outside work.
Your insurance only covers hospital bills.
LINDUNG 24 Jam also provides benefits related to disablement, rehabilitation and loss of income.
Your family depends on your income.
The dependants’ benefit and other financial assistance could become important if a serious accident happens.
But if you already have comprehensive personal accident coverage, check your policy first. You may already have some of these protections.
How Do You Claim?
Claims can be submitted through the LINDUNG Faedah portal or at a PERKESO office with the required documents.
If you are involved in a road accident, getting a police report is important.
Keep your medical records and medical certificates too, especially if you are claiming Temporary Disablement Benefit.
And don’t forget to check your PERKESO contribution record to make sure your deductions are actually being credited.
So, Is It Worth It?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer.
But the easiest way to look at LINDUNG 24 Jam is this:
Regular SOCSO protects you at work.
LINDUNG 24 Jam protects you when you’re off work.
For less than RM45 a month at the current maximum contribution, it gives employees another layer of protection against accidents — but only within Malaysia and only for eligible accidents.
If you have already opted out, your normal SOCSO protection remains intact. If you stayed in, make sure you understand exactly what you’re paying for.
Because that small deduction on your payslip could matter a lot if the unexpected happens.
