Mall Parking Glitch Charges RM20,000 For One Hour, Leaves Drivers Confused

Date:

A routine trip to a shopping mall turned into a baffling experience for one motorist after a parking machine allegedly displayed an absurd fee of more than RM20,000 just to exit the premises.

In an anonymous Facebook post, the man said he had visited the mall briefly to escape the heat and purchase a few daily essentials, spending less than an hour inside.

However, upon attempting to leave, he was shocked when the parking system reportedly showed a charge of RM20,575.

He described the moment as surreal, joking that he felt like he had “teleported to Dubai” after seeing the unusually high amount on the screen.

The man also claimed that the display continued prompting him to “tap card”, which added to his confusion and frustration at the malfunctioning system.

The issue was not limited to a single exit point, as multiple parking machines at the mall were reportedly showing similarly inflated charges.

This led to widespread confusion among motorists, with some taking photos of the screens while others attempted to seek assistance from staff on site.

At one point, the situation allegedly caused congestion as drivers were unable to exit the parking area and were forced to wait for the system to be restored.

The incident is believed to have been caused by a technical glitch in the parking payment system, with the displayed amounts not reflecting actual charges.

Once the system was fixed, vehicles were gradually allowed to leave the car park as normal.

The social media user also suggested that mall operators improve their emergency response procedures, including clearer communication and on-site assistance during similar system failures in the future.
