Man Slammed For Wanting Mum’s EPF Savings To Build Bigger Bedroom And Gaming Room

Date:

A Malaysian man has sparked outrage online after his sibling revealed that he allegedly wants to use their mother’s Employees Provident Fund (EPF) retirement savings to renovate the family home for his own benefit.

In an anonymous social media post, the man claimed his younger brother has been persuading their mother to withdraw money from her EPF account to finance home renovations, including building a larger bedroom for himself and an additional room that he plans to use as a gaming room.

According to the post, their parents are not wealthy and have worked their entire lives, relying on their EPF savings to support themselves during retirement. The situation has reignited discussions on the importance of protecting retirement funds, with many stressing that EPF savings are intended to provide financial security in old age rather than fund personal lifestyle upgrades.

The man alleged that his brother has been appealing to their parents’ desire for grandchildren by telling them the extra room would eventually be used by his future wife and children after he gets married.

However, he questioned that reasoning, saying many couples today prefer living independently rather than staying with their parents or in-laws after marriage.

Adding to his frustration, the man revealed that his younger brother already owns a condominium purchased by their late grandfather. Instead of living there, his brother reportedly rents out the property to earn additional income while continuing to stay at the family home.

“Objectively speaking, my brother is already in a good financial position. It doesn’t feel right that he wants to use our mum’s EPF money to build himself a bigger bedroom and gaming room when those savings are meant for her retirement,” he wrote, adding that he was unsure whether he was simply overthinking the situation.

The post quickly attracted widespread attention, with many netizens condemning the younger brother’s alleged plan and describing it as selfish. Several commenters urged parents to safeguard their retirement savings and warned against overindulging their children, saying excessive financial support can create long-term dependency and place parents’ financial security at risk.
