A woman was left shocked after she and her friends were allegedly charged for air-conditioning at a restaurant, a cost she did not expect when dining out.
According to a Facebook post based on a Threads update shared by the woman, she said she was initially told that the air-conditioning fee would be RM28 in total for the group.
However, upon receiving the bill after their meal, she was surprised to find that they were charged RM100 instead almost three times the amount that was initially stated.
She added that it was her first time being charged such a high fee simply for using the restaurant’s air-conditioned dining area.
The incident has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens criticising the restaurant and calling for authorities to investigate possible profiteering.
Others questioned whether restaurants might start charging separately for basic amenities such as seating, tissues or handwashing facilities if such practices become common.
However, some defended the restaurant, saying customers should be aware of charges upfront and that dining in air-conditioned areas may come with additional costs.
A few also argued that patrons have the choice to sit in non-air-conditioned sections if they do not wish to pay extra fees.
