Viral ‘Donald Trump’ Buffalo Saved From Slaughter In Bangladesh

Date:

A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” due to its distinctive golden-brown tuft, has been spared from being slaughtered for Eid al-Adha after last-minute intervention by the government.

Officials from the Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs said the nearly 700-kilogram animal had initially been sold for sacrificial purposes, but authorities stepped in following growing public attention and safety concerns linked to its viral popularity.

Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed reportedly ordered the buffalo to be rescued, with the buyer refunded and the animal transferred to the National Zoo in Dhaka.

Officials said the decision was made due to “unusual public interest” and potential safety risks as crowds flocked to see the animal after videos of it went viral on social media.

What began as a routine livestock sale quickly turned into a nationwide sensation, with visitors travelling long distances to see the rare albino buffalo and its unique appearance.

The animal’s owner said the nickname “Donald Trump” was given by a relative who felt the buffalo’s hairstyle resembled the former US president.

The buffalo, known for its calm temperament, required careful handling and regular feeding and bathing, according to its caretaker.

Albino buffaloes are extremely rare in Bangladesh, where most cattle are typically dark-coloured, making the animal a major attraction during the Eid livestock season.

Authorities said the viral fame ultimately played a key role in saving the buffalo from slaughter.
