Local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, is believed to have appeared at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) last night to assist in the investigation into the death of a Taiwanese female influencer who was found dead in a hotel bathroom on Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur, on October 22.
In a Facebook post, Namewee said he had just arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru.
“I’m currently at the police station and will give my full cooperation to assist in the investigation as well as provide clarification to the public and the woman’s family.
I will not run away. In the past, I’ve been called by authorities seven times, and every time, I went voluntarily to give my statement. I have never fled,” he wrote.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said that the case, which was initially classified as sudden death (SDR), is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder.
He confirmed that Namewee was at the location when the incident occurred.
Fadil added that the investigation is still ongoing, with all angles being examined — including identifying the last person who was with the victim.
Attempts by Sinar Harian to obtain confirmation from the police are still pending, but an official statement is expected to be released soon.
